Ender’s Game and ICEE Launching ‘Train Like an Astronaut’ Sweepstakes

The new Battle Room Training game is sponsored by ICEE, so the first thing I thought was, where can I get an Ender’s Game ICEE? (Come on, you thought the same right?)

    Turns out, it’s totally happening!

    Ender's-Game-Icee

Go to ICEE.com and you’ll see early details for their ‘Train Like an Astronaut Sweepstakes’. It looks like codes will be available on special Ender’s Game ICEE cups that you can then use to enter the sweepstakes to win an astronaut training experience at the Kennedy Space Center.

The Ender’s Game ICEEs will come in two flavors: Battle School Blastberry and Orbital Orange.

The rules don’t appear to be online yet, but you can check out the entry page here.

IF-BattleSchool.com Launches Battle School Training Game

    Battle-Room-Training

I went to visit IF-BattleSchool.com by chance today to see if any new challenges were coming up soon and noticed a new option at the top of the site labled “Play the Game”.

Upon clicking it, you can try out a “Battle Room Training” game in which you must shoot the red targets, just like the ones that Petra helps train Ender with in the Battle Room! In our set visit report, we revealed that Petra’s target practice balls are thrown out into the Room and then expand.

    Level1

There’s Colonel Graff, looking all mad and grumpy as usual. Seriously, what does it take to please this guy? Just kidding. 😉

As for what you need to do, click to hit the reds. Avoid the blues and the grays. The yellow targets help recharge your gun. Shoot too much and it’ll freeze up, leaving you vulnerable to shots from the red targets!

Tell us your high scores here!

Ender’s Game is at Toronto’s Fan Expo Canada this week and eOneFilms (Canadian distributor) is doing the green screen photos for fans that visit their booth. (photo from msnataliedee) If you’re not sure what Fan Expo Canada is, I wasn’t either, but apparently it’s the Canada’s equivalent of Comic Con.

Director Gavin Hood is there and did a press junket for Ender’s Game, so hopefully we’ll see some interviews coming out for that soon. He’s currently doing an autograph signing at the eOneFilms booth. If anyone snaps a photo please send it in to us at valentine @ enderwiggin.net!

VIDEO: Gamescom Ender’s Game Lasertag Highlights 2

Constantin Film has released their second highlights video “Rules of the Game” from Gamescom. With Dee on vacation, we’ve got a partial translation, thanks to my friend Carla!

UPDATE: We now have a full translation from Dee!

Episode 2: Rules of the Game

What happened so far: 12 female commanders of the International Fleet are looking for the chosen fighter at Gamescom. In cooperation with KEF we have built a gigantic laser tag arena. Here we test the abilties of potential heroes to secure peace for the entire world. AFter you have registered yourself and your team for the laser tag game, you receive a fastlane pass, which will shorten the time you will have to wait in line enormously. One of our commanders will soon take care of you and will prepare you and your team for the Great Game. Each fighter receives an Ender’s Game uniform and a lasertag (gun). The goal is to mark the enemy team with as many laser tags as possible over the course of five minutes. As soon as you are ready for your great moment, the gates to the Ender’s Game laser tag arena will open. Ender’s Game. From October 24 in cinemas.

VIDEOS: Gamescom’s EG Laser Tag Tournament – Trailer and Highlights

Gamescom is in full swing, and Constantin Film has uploaded the first couple of videos of the Ender’s Game Laser Tag Tournament. Check out their first Highlights Report below:

    Here is the translation:

Ender’s Game: The Great Game – Highlights Gamescom Day 1
    Episode 1: Preparations

It is the year 2013. The danger of the aliens invading for a third time is ever-present and still dominates life on Earth. In search of the one chosen warrior who has what it takes to save mankind we’ve pitched our boot camp at the world’s largest interactive gaming and entertainment event: Gamescom. For the next five days, about 300.000 of the most talented warriors of the most diverse backgrounds will meet here. Our administration includes 12 carefully selected commanders of the International Fleet (short: IF). Our boot camp has been equipped with a gigantic laser tag arena. Here, we test the abilities, the strategies and, most importantly, the courage of our soldiers. Since there is likely to be a large crowd, we offer you the chance to register (for free) for a fast lane pass, which will grant you preferential treatment when it comes to participating in the Great Game. Prove your abilities! This is your chance. Build your army and register now at Facebook/Endersgamefilm. The next report from Gamescom will be uploaded tomorrow at noon. Ender’s Game. In Cinemas from October 24.

And if that’s not cheesy enough for you to be thoroughly entertained, here is a fun fact: the guy saying these lines is the German voice of Robert de Niro.

A few days ago, Constantin also released a trailer for the laser tag tournament. In the Cologne area, it has been shown in cinemas to draw a crowd to Gamescom. Unfortunately, the youtube version of it is only viewable in Germany, but here it is anyway:

    Translation:

It is the year 2013. The danger of the aliens invading a third time is ever-present and dominates life on Earth. You are our last hope to find the chosen warrior, one who knows no fear or mercy. Have you got what it takes to be a hero? Ender’s Game – The Laser Tag Challenge. Prove yourself in the laser tag arena only at Gamescom 2013 in Cologne. Build your team and register on Facebook/Endersgamefilm.

(This one is narrated by the German voice of Harrison Ford.)

For those of you who can’t watch the trailer, Crystal made a screencap of the laser tag arena:

    Lasertag

This looks effing awesome! And to imagine that for most of the year I live only about 2 and a half hours from Cologne, and I still couldn’t make it ….

So, what do you think of the laser tag challenge? (Or the dramatic prose, for that matter.) Share your thoughts in the comments!

‘Ender’s Game: Battle School’ Board Game: Hi-Res Image

Last week we told you about Ender’s Game: Battle School, a board game to be released by Cryptozoic. Now we have a hi-res version of the image Cryptozoic is using to advertise their new game. You can even read the words on the cards! Click the image for the hi-res version.

    EG board game hi-res

In case you don’t remember, here is the description of the game again:

Ender’s Game: Battle School is a two-player game set in the zero-gravity arena of the International Fleet’s Battle School.  Players take the role of either Ender Wiggin and the Dragon Team or Bonzo Madrid and the Salamander Team, and then use Commander cards with special abilities (some for the whole team, some that only help the commander) to attempt to capture the other team’s gates or freeze opposing team players with laser-light guns.  The player who completes either of the goals first (capturing all the gates or freezing the opposing commander) wins.

    • parallels between Ender’s Game and The Hunger Games,
    • this new still of Ender, Graff, and Mazer,
    • how the EG movie will differ from the book in one important way, and how that is actually probably a good thing (read Crystal’s editorial about that HERE) and
    • the Ender’s Game board game and the Funko Pop!Vinyl figures of Ender and Petra that were announced earlier this week.

In addition, the hosts welcome huge Ender’s Game/Asa Butterfield fan and speed twitterer Fernanda (@frahnias) to the newest installment of Pop Quiz, Fart Eater. Listen to the Episode HERE and find out how she did!

Funko to Release Ender and Petra Pop! Vinyl Figures

As the days tick down to the release of Ender’s Game, we’ll start to see more merchandise being released. One thing we can look forward to are Pop! Vinyl figures from Funko for Ender and Petra.

Thanks to a tip from EnderWiggin.net reader Bruna, we found pre-order pages for the Ender and Petra figures on Entertainment Earth. If you’re not sure what they are by name, you might recognize them from the photo below.

No photos are yet available for the Ender’s Game figures, but we’ll keep an eye out for you Launchies! Funko sells their figures on Amazon, so they’ll probably eventually show up there.

Hopefully it’s not just Ender and Petra! A Bean figure would probably do well and surely they’ll do one for Graff/Harrison Ford, no?
