Gettyimages has new photos of last night’s Ender’s Game Experience Press Preview! Apparently, the Thursday panelists (sans Abigail Breslin, who had to cancel) were in attendance and up to all kinds of mischief. • Ender’s Game Cast Watch #5

    Ender’s Game Cast Watch #5

This past week had half the cast in a flurry over San Diego Comic Con. It looks like almost everone is attending!

    5suraj_sdcc_201307105brandon_sdcc_20130708

According to the official Comic Con page, Suraj and Aramis as well as Jimmy Pinchak, Conor Carroll, and Cameron Gaskins are going to sign autographs on Saturday around noon (drawing of line tickets is around 9am), while the Thursday panelists (sans Harrison Ford) are scheduled to sign on Thursday morning.  Good planning, Comic Con! It’s not as if the Ender’s Game fans will be waiting in line in front of Hall H at that time!

What I find interesting is that Brandon Soo Hoo, Khylin Rhambo and Moises Arias (both unconfirmed) seem to be going to San Diego, but aren’t part of the official line-up. What’s with that? Are they just going to hang out around the premises? Or is there some secret project they are involved in? (Ender’s Game Experience, anyone?)

Hailee Steinfeld and Asa Butterfield are also preparing for the big event. But while for Hailee things are going according to plan, Asa had to endure a few setbacks (read tweets from bottom to top) before he arrived safely in LA this morning.

According to his Twitter, he is going to meet up with his friend and Hugo co-star Cloe Moretz while he’s there.

Earlier last week, when things were still a bit less hectic, Asa enjoyed a beautiful day in Sheffield, while Aramis went for some recreational Lasertag. Be careful, Aramis, your Bean is showing!

On a personal note, I’m happy to announce that two of my favorite fandoms are finally converging on each other, as Suraj Partha has become addicted to Doctor Who! I know your pain, Suraj. Now go spread the word!

Hailee Steinfeld on Petra and Strong Female Roles

    Petra-Poster_cropped169

In an article on the “new wave of strong female-led sci-fi” published yesterday by the Los Angeles Times, Hailee Steinfeld speaks up about what attracted her to the role of Petra in Ender’s Game. According to the article, it wasn’t easy for her to find a challenging enough project after her highly acclaimed performance as Mattie Ross in True Grit (2010). The role of  Petra Arkanian seems to have changed that.

When ‘Ender’s Game’ came along with Petra, I found that I’m really attracted to the strong female roles. Not only do you have to look harder for those parts but you have to fight for them. But fighting for what you want is the best part of the job. It’s what I love.”

The rest of the article focuses on other strong female characters in young adult franchises such as Divergent, The Mortal Instruments, and The Hunger Games. While many fans of Card’s novel are tired of Ender’s Game constantly being compared to The Hunger Games, Hailee nevertheless has something to say about which kind of impact the Hunger Games movie had on her and the rest of the young cast during the filming of Ender’s Game:

We all sat in the theater and we were all in awe. Most of us had read the book and we were excited. It was cool to see that ensemble cast just bring it 110%. It motivated us to really come together and make a great movie.

  • Ender’s Game Cast Watch #4

    Ender’s Game Cast Watch #4

Another week of me stalking the Ender’s Game cast on the nets has come to a close. Let’s see what the kids have been up to.

Asa Butterfield has been all kinds of busy. Let’s start with the picture that finally made him Instagram-famous (and I wonder why):

    4asa_boat20130704

Looks like that was the last day in Greece, before he had to return to London for his Prom!

    4asa_prom_20130705

Also, in preparation of his appearance at the Ender’s Game panel on Thursday, July 18, Asa went shopping at Carnaby Street, London. Will he wow you all with his fashion sense?

    4asa_fashion

Personally, I’m slightly flashed by the pattern mix. But I’m sure that’s just me.

Speaking of Comic Con, Aramis Knight has confirmed that he will be signing autographs! He even gave a tentative date! Watch out for him on Saturday at the Summit booth! After Jimmy Pinchak, Aramis is the second non-panelist announcing that he is going to SDCC, but Khylin Rhambo, Brandon Soo Hoo, Conor Carroll and Caleb Thaggard are rumored to be there as well.  While the kids are getting excited for the big event, Harrison Ford seems to have the time and leisure for a trip to Peru.

Hailee Steinfeld has been caught up in other projects. Nevertheless she had the time to tweet about her new magazine cover as well as an interview she did about her upcoming film Romeo and Juliet. Watch it below!

    4hailee_magazine_20130704

Moises Arias has a new film … or rather, a video. He appears in his friend Willow Smith’s new music video “Summer Fling”.

Finally, Suraj Partha seems to have a little less time for fun stuff this summer, as he is studying for his SAT! I’m sure he will ace it, though, just like he just aced his AP EURO class (according to his facebook). He did, however, have the time to post a video of himself singing and playing the piano in Paris. So romantic!

  • Ender’s Game Cast Watch #2

    Ender’s Game Cast Watch #2

As usual, the young Ender’s Game cast has been really active on Twitter this week, with Abigail Breslin taking home the “Most Obsessive Tweeter” award with 33 original tweets since Monday.

Moises Arias has been busy promoting his new film The Kings of Summer, which was released this week. He attended a Q & A at the Landmark Theater in LA on Wednesday. Check out Twitter user Devan Abharis photograph of the event (as retweeted by Moises himself).

Moises also spoke to Papermag about The Kings of  Summer. He briefly mentions Ender’s Game, saying:

It was honestly one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever had. It was inspiring to see the professionalism. The cinematography! The special effects look amazing. I’m excited. I’ve gotten to work with the most amazing actors and the most amazing child actors right now.

Hailee Steinfeld has been spending her time filming the Civil War drama The Keeping Room (with Sam Worthington) and photographing cows in Romania.

Asa Butterfield has finished school and has left London for warmer pastures as well, spending his summer vacation in Greece.

Suraj Partha is still travelling the world. After France and England, he is rounding off his trip with a visit to Disneyland.

  • Ender’s Game Cast Watch #1

    Ender’s Game Cast Watch #1

Since it’s been a pretty slow couple of days, I decided to stalk the Ender’s Game cast’s twitter and facebook accounts in the hopes of turning up some interesting tidbits. And guess what, the kids have been BUSY! Well, all except Asa Butterfield, who has apparently decided to spend the next week or so in front of his computer.

    asawhere

He did, however, hang out with Suraj Partha only a couple of days ago, when Suraj visited London on his trip to Europe. Hailee Steinfeld, on the other hand, stayed in the States to spend some days in Hollywood being honored by Max Mara.  And Moises Arias just returned from a week of roughin’ it in Cabo San Lucas.

Jimmy Pinchak was in New Jersey yesterday visiting Jenkinson’s Boardwalk. Meanwhile, Aramis Knight has been busy planning to participate in the “One Child At A Time”-Celebrity Basketball match coming up on June 23.

  • Hailee Steinfeld’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’ Finds US Distributor

Hailee Steinfeld’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’ Finds US Distributor

    Juliet

According to Variety, Hailee Steinfeld’s upcoming film Romeo and Juliet (out July 26 in the UK) has found a US distributor with Relativity Media. The company will release the film in the United States on September 6, 2013! See a new still of Hailee as Juliet above and watch the trailer for the film below.

The film was shot early last year in Italy in Mantua, the Northern Italian city to which Romeo was banished in the play, and at Rome’s Cinecitta Studios. Producers have been touting “Romeo and Juliet” as an ageless story reimagined for the 21st Century and told in the traditional setting it was written.

Hailee has done several projects since Ender’s Game and Romeo and Juliet will be her first appearance on the big screen since her Academy award nominated performance in 2010’s True Grit.

VIDEO: Hailee and Asa Talk Space Camp and Harrison Ford

ClevverTV interviewed Hailee and Asa at CinemaCon and asked about Ender’s Game, working with Harrison Ford, and space camp training.

“I think the hardest part was getting up at 7 every morning,” laughed Asa. “But that was the first time the cast had met each other, pretty much, so it really broke the ice and we were best friends at the end of it.”

  • Hailee Steinfeld Thinks Fans of ‘Ender’s Game’ Will be Proud of the Movie

Hailee Steinfeld Thinks Fans of ‘Ender’s Game’ Will be Proud of the Movie

At CinemaCon to accept the award for Female Star of Tomorrow, actress Hailee Steinfeld did a short Q&A with press to talk about Ender’s Game and Romeo and Juliet.

Hailee was first asked whether she’s a fan of sci-fi and she was quick to credit Ender’s Game for introducing her to the genre. “Since then I’ve really been a huge fan and I really love the whole extended world behind it.”

Although she hadn’t read Ender’s Game before she signed on, she had heard of the book. “I wasn’t at all familiar with it. I’d heard of the book, I hadn’t read it, so after I signed up to do the project I had read the first book and I’m so interested in taking the time to read all the others. There’s quite a few and if I had the time I would definitely read them all. I’m a huge fan of the series.”

She credits the fan following as one of the reasons she decided to take the role of Petra Arkanian. “Something that I really loved about this walking into it was that it did have such a huge fanbase that you’re being accepted in and we get to share this film with so many fans and so many people that love the book and I think that they’ll be really proud of it. I had such an incredible experience and I would do it again in a heartbeat.”

I think the fans will love her as Petra and hopefully we do end up very proud of the film!

Variety Talks to Harrison Ford, Asa Butterfield, and Hailee Steinfeld

    CinemaCon

CinemaCon is in full swing in Las Vegas and Variety spoke to the various actors receiving special recognition at the convention going on this week in Las Vegas, Nevada. Among those they interviewed are three Ender’s Game cast members.

Harrison Ford, who is receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award, was quick to point out that Ender’s Game is different from Blade Runner.

“It’s just a whole different canvas — no replicants — and character and world view.”

Asa Butterfield, who will be given the Rising Star Award, gave high praise to the script, which he read while studying hard in school.

“It was the best script I’d read, and I thought how much fun it would be to be in zero gravity with laser guns.”

And last but not least, Hailee Steinfeld, who will be recognized as the Female Star of Tomorrow, talked about the fun of hanging with a cast of mostly boys her age.

“At that point I’d wanted to work with kids my age, and was looking forward to it,” she recalls. “The catch is that they were all boys, so it was 3½ months with a bunch of guys, which is not a bad thing.”

Lionsgate’s product presentation is on Thursday, but still no word on whether anything new from Ender’s Game will be released.
