    Ender’s Game Cast Watch #10

    Hey peeps,

I’m a little early this week because I’m leaving tomorrow for a week and a half to visit my family, but there’s plenty to report even now, since the Ender’s Game cast has been busy.

Asa Butterfield continues to film his new movie X Plus Y. The film team just relocated to Taipei/Taiwan, which seems to have made everyone more photo-happy.

    10_asa_journey_collage

    10_asa_Taipei_collage

There’s probably something in the water in Taipei, something that makes you cross-eyed and paralyzes your tongue. Or maybe it’s those 34 hours without any sleep that Asa Butterfield was talking about on Twitter. Anyway, it looks like tumblr users lovezucks and ceolwaerc, whose stalking abilities far exceed mine, have found the first images of Jo Yang, who plays Asa’s love interest in X Plus Y.

While in Taipei, Asa apparently also got his GCSE results. Not bad. I wonder if he is going to continue to A-levels. I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

    10_asa_GSCEs

Asa isn’t the only one currently concerned with school stuff. Suraj Partha has been studying for his SATs.

    10_suraj_SAT

I’m sure he is going to ace that, but if he doesn’t, he could always become a photographer. Look at this beautiful picture he took during a recend road trip.

Meanwhile, Aramis Knight has been enjoying his celebrity status as well as the California sun. Last Thursday, Aramis attended WWE & E! Entertainment’s “Superstars for Hope” event.

    10_aramis_WWE_pic

More recently, he has been planning spring break with Khylin Rhambo. According to twitter user aramis_bean (as retweeted by Aramis Knight), this is what that’s gonna look like:

(Apropos Kings of Summer, Moises Arias’ Kings of Summer is out in the UK this week, as Moises let us know via Twitter.)

And just today, ETOnline published Aramis Knight’s personal ‘Shredding’ skateboarding playlist. Says Aramis

Skateboarding and music go hand in hand. There’s nothing like jamming out to my favorite tunes while cruising in my neighborhood or local skatepark.

    Check out the playlist HERE!

Finally, adult cast members Andrea Powell (Theresa Wiggin) and Han Soto (Graff’s aide) are involved in new projects. Andrea is shooting a Christmas Special with Andy Garcia, while Han is filming a Left Behind remake with Nicholas Cage.

  • VIDEOS: Gamescom’s EG Laser Tag Tournament – Trailer and Highlights

VIDEOS: Gamescom’s EG Laser Tag Tournament – Trailer and Highlights

Gamescom is in full swing, and Constantin Film has uploaded the first couple of videos of the Ender’s Game Laser Tag Tournament. Check out their first Highlights Report below:

    Here is the translation:

Ender’s Game: The Great Game – Highlights Gamescom Day 1
    Episode 1: Preparations

It is the year 2013. The danger of the aliens invading for a third time is ever-present and still dominates life on Earth. In search of the one chosen warrior who has what it takes to save mankind we’ve pitched our boot camp at the world’s largest interactive gaming and entertainment event: Gamescom. For the next five days, about 300.000 of the most talented warriors of the most diverse backgrounds will meet here. Our administration includes 12 carefully selected commanders of the International Fleet (short: IF). Our boot camp has been equipped with a gigantic laser tag arena. Here, we test the abilities, the strategies and, most importantly, the courage of our soldiers. Since there is likely to be a large crowd, we offer you the chance to register (for free) for a fast lane pass, which will grant you preferential treatment when it comes to participating in the Great Game. Prove your abilities! This is your chance. Build your army and register now at Facebook/Endersgamefilm. The next report from Gamescom will be uploaded tomorrow at noon. Ender’s Game. In Cinemas from October 24.

And if that’s not cheesy enough for you to be thoroughly entertained, here is a fun fact: the guy saying these lines is the German voice of Robert de Niro.

A few days ago, Constantin also released a trailer for the laser tag tournament. In the Cologne area, it has been shown in cinemas to draw a crowd to Gamescom. Unfortunately, the youtube version of it is only viewable in Germany, but here it is anyway:

    Translation:

It is the year 2013. The danger of the aliens invading a third time is ever-present and dominates life on Earth. You are our last hope to find the chosen warrior, one who knows no fear or mercy. Have you got what it takes to be a hero? Ender’s Game – The Laser Tag Challenge. Prove yourself in the laser tag arena only at Gamescom 2013 in Cologne. Build your team and register on Facebook/Endersgamefilm.

(This one is narrated by the German voice of Harrison Ford.)

For those of you who can’t watch the trailer, Crystal made a screencap of the laser tag arena:

    Lasertag

This looks effing awesome! And to imagine that for most of the year I live only about 2 and a half hours from Cologne, and I still couldn’t make it ….

So, what do you think of the laser tag challenge? (Or the dramatic prose, for that matter.) Share your thoughts in the comments!

‘Ender’s Game: Battle School’ Board Game: Hi-Res Image

Last week we told you about Ender’s Game: Battle School, a board game to be released by Cryptozoic. Now we have a hi-res version of the image Cryptozoic is using to advertise their new game. You can even read the words on the cards! Click the image for the hi-res version.

    EG board game hi-res

In case you don’t remember, here is the description of the game again:

Ender’s Game: Battle School is a two-player game set in the zero-gravity arena of the International Fleet’s Battle School.  Players take the role of either Ender Wiggin and the Dragon Team or Bonzo Madrid and the Salamander Team, and then use Commander cards with special abilities (some for the whole team, some that only help the commander) to attempt to capture the other team’s gates or freeze opposing team players with laser-light guns.  The player who completes either of the goals first (capturing all the gates or freezing the opposing commander) wins.

  • Ender’s Game Cast Watch #9 – Teen Choice Awards

Ender’s Game Cast Watch #9 – Teen Choice Awards

    Hey peeps,

it’s been a while since I did a regular Cast Watch. So let’s cover some ground!

    1. TEEN CHOICE AWARDS

Last Sunday (August 11, 2013) the annual Teen Choice Awards were held at Universal Studios LA. Abigail Breslin and Hailee Steinfeld presented an award together, and they looked stunning.

    9_teenchoice_abigail_hailee_collage

If you really dig Hailee’s outfit and are interested in her nail art, here is a pretty little article about it.
During the presentation, the girls seem to have given it their all.

    9_teenchoice_abigail_hailee

I had thought that this pose was exclusive to German pseudo-folk singers whose dirndl dresses are made by their mothers, but apparently not. Afterwards, Hailee went to thank her outfitters for her awesome look, while Abigail seemed preoccupied with shoe woes. I commiserate.

    9_teenchoice_hailee

    9_teenchoice_abigail_heels

Aramis Knight and Khylin Rhambo attended some of the pre- and after-parties of the event. On Thursday, August 8, both went to the Style Lounge/Gifting Suite event held by Red Carpet Events LA in honor of the Teen Choice Awards. Here, Aramis talked to Red Carpet Report about Ender’s Game. We posted his interview earlier HERE.

    9_aramis_khylin_teenchoice_lounge_collage

On Friday, August 9, KIIS-FM held a Teen Choice Awards gifting suite and pre-party in West LA. Aramis met up with his friend Dylan Sprayberry there. Look at the coolness!

    8aramis_kiis

On Sunday, August 11, Aramis and Dylan went to the Teen Choice Awards after-party. Nice print!

    2. ASA BUTTERFIELD X PLUS Y

While the LA kids were partying, Asa Butterfield was busy shooting a movie. And with busy I mean BUSY! Pick up at 6, working from 7 to 7 – it’s a hard life.

    9_asa_schedule

    9_asa_7to7

And not only that, the work seems to go on after hours, as some instagram images from during and after filming contest to. For instance, this one’s titled 10:26.

    9_asa_xplusy1

Since the young star is very busy, he doesn’t have much time to tweet. Some of the kids on the film, however, seem to be willing to share the occasional behind-the-scenes/late night rehearsal pic. Tumblr users lovezucks and elinabfb have been tracking down some of those pics to share with the general, Asa Butterfield-obsessed public.

    9_asa_xy_collage
    3. MISCELLANEOUS

In other news, Aramis Knight hung out with fellow child actors Danika Yarosh, Mason Cook, and Jadin Gould at Olivia Holt’s Sweet Sixteen, as wells as with his buddy Khylin Rhambo for some knar skateboarding session prior to the Teen Choice Awards.

    9_aramis_collage

Khylin Rhambo, after some contemplation (check his Twitter), has apparently decided to go back to a regular high school instead of continuing home schooling. Good Luck!

    9_khylin_newschool

And finally: Listen Up, New Yorkers! Abigail Breslin is to perform at The Bitter End on Monday, August 13, from 7 pm!

VIDEO: Gavin Hood On Making Ender’s Game an Unusual YA Movie

Another wonderful interview with Ender’s Game director Gavin Hood! I have to say, the more of these I see, the more excited I get for this movie. Gavin talks to MoviesDotCom about making Ender’s Game a Young Adult movie (PG-13!) that doesn’t talk down to kids, how he tried to incorporate epic scifi elements as well as the intimate character story, why he cut Locke and Demosthenes, and his stance on possible sequels.

VIDEO: Asa and Hailee on Petra, Graff, and the Movie’s Time Frame

There are still Comic Con videos trickling in. This one was posted recently by Entertainment Weekly. Watch Asa Butterfield and Hailee Steinfeld talk about Petra being the only girl, Graff being the “overbearing tyrant” of Battle School and their favorite thing to shoot. Also, Asa Butterfield speculates on when the Ender’s Game movie is actually set.

I’m not sure I believe the 50 year time frame. Maybe he means that that is when the first invasion occurs?

Thanks to asafarrbutterfield and ellassecretworld for posting this on Tumblr.

  • Ender’s Game Cast Watch #8 – New Projects Edition

Ender’s Game Cast Watch #8 – New Projects Edition

Recently, the names of several cast members have been showing up in entertainment news articles around the Nets, and not just in connection to Ender’s Game. I figure that’s reason enought to take a closer look at the cast’s current and upcoming projects.

Hailee Steinfeld seems to be by far the busiest of the younger cast. Her new movie Romeo & Juliet, starring Douglas Booth as Romeo, is coming out in October and Relativity Media has recently released not only a new trailer and the first movie poster but also several hi-res stills to promote the film. See the poster and the trailer below, and check out the stills HERE!

    8_hailee_poster_romeo

In addition to Romeo & Juliet and Ender’s Game, Hailee has nine movies coming up, six of which have already been shot. Hateship Loveship and Can A Song Save Your Life? are set to premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in September. Release dates have yet to be set for The Homesman (a frontier drama starring Tommy Lee Jones) and The Keeping Room (with Sam Worthington, set during the American Civil War). The spy thriller Three Days to Kill is coming out in February 2014. Three more projects are currently in pre-production.

Abigail Breslin has a few movies coming out within the next few months as well. Her horror flick Haunter is set to be released in theaters and on Video on Demand in October, and the poster and trailer have just been released online.

    8_abigail_poster_haunter

See 58 hi-res stills of the movie HERE at Filmofilia. In addition, Abigail is starring in the thrillers Final Girl and Wicked Blood, both set to be released this year, and playwright Tracy Letts’ family Drama August: Osage County (with Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts and Benedict Cumberbatch; out in December). Two more projects are currently in pre-production.

As we told you a couple of weeks ago, Asa Butterfield is currently filming BBC co-financed dramedy X Plus Y. He is also rumored to play the lead in The White Circus, a fantasy movie reuniting him with Chloe Moretz set to be released in 2015. And personally, I wouldn’t be too upset if the casting directors of the new Artemis Fowl movie would consider casting Asa. Tumblr users have done that for years.

But let’s not forget the adult cast, since they have been keeping busy, too. Harrison Ford’s new movie Paranoia (with Liam Hemsworth and Gary Oldman) is coming out in a little over a month. Anchorman 2, in which he has a small role, is set to be released in January 2014. In addition, he is involved in three projects that are currently in pre-production: psychological thriller You Belong To Me (with Zach Efron), Sly Stallone’s The Expendables 3, and the long awaited Star Wars VII (directed by J.J. Abrams). He has also declared on several occasions that he would be open to Indiana Jones 5. While I’m excited for Star Wars, I’m not so sure about Indy 5 (Indy 4 was one of the worst movies I’ve ever not finished watching), and I’m positively dreading Expendables. I wonder if Harrison lost a bet or something.

True to current form, Sir Ben Kingsley has signed onto every project he could fit into his schedule. WWII drama Walking With the Enemy and middle ages set The Physician (based on Noah Gordon’s best-selling novel) are set to be released later this year. SciFi movie Our Robot Overlords is to premiere in 2014. One more project, currently untitled, is in post-production. Two are filming at the moment (thriller Eliza Graves and animated movie The Boxtrolls). Three more are in pre-production.

Viola Davis has a new movie coming out in September as well: crime thriller Prisoners, starring Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhall. Two more movies – Th Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby and Cyber – are currently filming/in post-production.

Finally, Nonso Anozie has been doing pretty well for himself. He has landed roles in the upcoming Jack Ryan movie, starring Chris Pine and Keira Knightley (out in December) and NBC’s Dracula TV series, starring Jonathan Rhys-Meyers as the seductive vampire and Nonso as his loyal servant Renfield.

EnderCast Episode # 26 – Shoot Straight, Stay Calm

    Episode26-630x200

Totally forgot to post this guys, so this is for those of you who haven’t seen it on Facebook/Twitter/Youtube or/and who’d like to be reminded to listen to the funniest EnderCast episode yet: Episode 26, titled “Shoot Straight, Stay Calm” (uh, I love that line in the trailer).

Crystal and Kelly managed to convice Aramis Knight (Bean) and Khylin Rhambo (Dink) to come on the show to talk about the brand new trailer. Needless to say, hilarity ensues. The guys even agreed to battle it out during Pop Quiz: Fart Eater! I’m still laughing about that one.

Our hosts talk to the guys about

    • what it was like to see the effects in the trailer for the first time,
    • what scene brought tears to Aramis’ eyes,
    • who is who in the Eros command center,
    • the first look at Admiral Chamrajnagar (and how that is pronounced) and
    • who the shield-and-shooter pair in the battle room scene actually are.

The Pop Quiz, Fart Eater showdown at the end is probably the best part of the episode. Don’t miss it!

VIDEO: Gavin Hood On Bringing Ender’s Internal Struggle To The Screen

More interviews from Comic Con, peeps! During the convention, Clevver TV caught up with Asa Butterfield and Hailee Steinfeld as well as producer Bob Orci and director Gavin Hood, but while they released their interview with Hailee and Asa weeks ago, they only made the ones with Bob and Gavin available on Youtube a couple of days ago.

In this one, Gavin Hood talks about space camp, training for Zero G and the challenges of bringing the imaginative environments of the book as well as Ender’s (mostly internal) struggle to the screen. If this pans out the way Hood planned it, it’s gonna be awesome.
