Thanks to an EnderWiggin.net reader on Facebook, we now know that the city featured in the ‘Never Again’ propaganda poster released yesterday is actually central Hong Kong. Here are a couple of maps from Google Maps where you can clearly see the buildings featured in the poster!

Thanks to Claudia and Michael for pointing this out! Link to map 1 and map 2.

PHOTOS: Bonzo, Dap, and a Dragon Soldier

Along with the re-launch of I.F. Sentinel and the three really cool propaganda posters came some new imagery, some of it better looks at key characters.

    Dap

First up, we have Dap, aka “Mom” to the Launchies. He’s sporting an IF Hat and wearing the teacher uniform. This photo doesn’t really do justice to how big Nonso Anozie is, but it’s still great to have a better look at him. We previously only caught a slight glimpse of him in the trailer.

    Dragon-Soldier

Next there’s a nice close-up image of the back of a Dragon Army soldier and we get a much better look at part of the flash suit. We can see that they wear something connected to their suit over their heads and the helmet goes on over that. Also, any guesses who this is? Since there’s a wall of stars in front of him, my guess is Bean!

    Bonzo

Last, but not least, we get a great first head-on look at Bonzo Madrid, standing in what could possibly be a bathroom with some of his fellow Salamander Army soldiers. He definitely looks intimidating, is it enough to convince you that he is out for blood? One can certainly understand how a look like that can scare off an extra on set!

  • Hi-Res Version of Ender in the Battle Room

Hi-Res Version of Ender in the Battle Room

Last week we got a great new image of Ender Wiggin in the Battle Room, presumably it’s his first time in the Battle Room because he’s wearing a yellow helmet, which we’ve all guessed is the official Launchie uniform color.

Now thanks to a hi-res version of the image, we get a better view of the look on Graff’s face as he watches Ender hang on to the handholds outside the gate. He’s clearly smiling, or at least looking at him with admiration.

    EG-HR

I didn’t comment much on this last week, but looking at this closer up, I do love the statement this image makes about the “technology” of Ender’s Game because Ender floats just a few feet away from Graff, who is clearly standing in a hallway with gravity.

Whether or not this is possible at all, I’ll leave up to the people who know science. I still think it lends some cool factor to the world they live in.

It’s also easier to see the flash suit (click for larger size):

New ‘Ender’s Game’ Still with Graff and Ender in the Battle Room

Let this be a lesson to me that the next time I hit the snooze button on my phone alarm, I should check email first. Haha!

Empire Online has just released a new still from Ender’s Game showing Ender in the Battle Room with Graff watching nearby. We get a really amazing look at the gate from the inside along with a better idea at just how massive the Battle Room is.

Empire spoke with Asa about the Battle Room scenes. Some of it we’ve heard before, some of it we haven’t, including the Battle Room scene he’s most proud of.

During their training, Ender and his unit take on a lot of other teams in the Battle Room. Any stunts you’re particularly proud of pulling off?

There’s a really cool sequence where I’m sort of spinning over backwards and I let go of my guns. They’re floating by my side just going along. As I push myself through these two stars, I spin back over and grab the guns, then shoot the people around me. I loved doing that.

He also mentions that they spent a month and a half filming scenes in the harness, which should be comforting for fans that were concerned by something author Orson Scott Card said last year at a book signing that one scene in the Battle Room is too many.

  • Lionsgate Holds Film Rights to 12 Ender Novels

Lionsgate Holds Film Rights to 12 Ender Novels

    Lionsgate

In a recent stock analysis story by Variety, it was revealed that Lionsgate holds the rights to all 12 novels in the Ender series.

Warning, the following quote may cause you to gouge out your eyes.

A cult favorite among teen boys and young men since its publication in 1985, it’s been described as “Star Wars meets Harry Potter.”

“While the book on which the film is based is a classic of the genre, we think the film remains a bit of a longshot to achieve breakout success (which we would define as a domestic box office in excess of $125 million) due to some potentially challenging subject matter,” he added.

It’s been previously stated that the budget for Ender’s Game was around $100 million.

Harrigan said in his report that “Ender’s Game” has “distinct fanboy and likely general audience appeal” with Lionsgate possibly responsible for 10% to 15% of the production cost. He also noted Lionsgate has rights to all 12 of Card’s “Ender’s Game” series, adding that not all of them are readily adaptable for film.

I feel I should note that if you haven’t read the book, the original Variety article spoils the ending.

Thanks to fanette for the news tip!

Cryptozoic’s Ender’s Game TCG to Include Autographed Cards

    Cryptozoic_Entertainment

Thanks to an inquiry by Ender News, we now know that Cryptozoic Entertainment will be releasing autographed cards for their upcoming Ender’s Game trading card game.

It’s unknown at this time which cast members will be participating, but since their other sets seem to nab everyone, I can’t imagine they can’t get all the named cast members to sign cards.

For examples from their other packs, take a look at their Walking Dead set and their Fringe set (um, this Fringe fan is now upset I didn’t know about this before) and their Castle set.

Basically, the you have a 1 in 24 chance at getting an autograph card in your pack. This brings back memories of the pure thrill I used to get finding a hologram in my Upper Deck football cards. 😀

    Posters

This post is just a reminder to folks that the Ender’s Game trailer will be making its theatrical debut with Star Trek Into Darkness. And while this can vary from theater to theater, it’s technically supposed to be there!

And a bit of interesting news to go with this reminder: Star Trek Into Darkness is now being released a full day early! Today when I bought my IMAX tickets, I went to double check the date of my tickets and found that they were for a Thursday show. At 7:15 pm.

I thought I was cracking up because I could have sworn it was coming out May 17. Plus, May 16 is a Thursday. I thought maybe Fandango had a glitch.

Turns out, Paramount really is releasing the movie a day early.

Recently, Paramount announced that the general, non-IMAX, release of Star Trek Into Darkness has actually been moved up to May 16. (The IMAX release remains at Wednesday, May 15, at 8pm.) Paramount’s Wednesday night IMAX showings were sold out and the studio wanted to give fans who couldn’t get tickets to the advance IMAX showings a chance to see it.

It’s a good thing I checked my tickets because it it would have sucked to show up with my family to a Friday show only to be told they were for the day before. So how about it launchies? Are you going to see Star Trek early? I’m keeping the trailer as  a surprise for my mom. She’ll seriously flip out and I’m looking forward to it! Hopefully I still have my arm when it’s over though, she might wrench it off in excitement…

Good luck getting the trailer! If you want to buy tickets online before you go, Fandango has a 20% off special right now off gift cards.

  • Nick Meyer on the Uniqueness of ‘Ender’s Game’

Nick Meyer on the Uniqueness of ‘Ender’s Game’

    Nick-Meyer

Former Lionsgate International president Nick Meyer and founder of Sierra/Affinity spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about bringing Ender’s Game to Cannes back in 2011. “Launching Ender’s Game to foreign buyers at Cannes in 2011 was a serious highlight.”

He also gave his thoughts on whether the film can replicate the box office success of Twilight or The Hunger Games, shedding some light on how Ender’s Game became a reality.

THR: There are high expectations for fall’s YA adaptation Ender’s Game. How did the movie come about?

Meyer: Gigi [Pritzker] was a partner in the company and we talked about how we could help with the foreign piece and arrange financing. OddLot and [director] Gavin Hood had developed an outstanding script, and we created a sizzle reel. We sold out in almost every foreign territory, while Summit struck a domestic deal.

THR: Do you think you can replicate the wild success of Twilight or The Hunger Games? Earlier this year, Beautiful Creatures failed to gain a foothold.

Meyer: Ender’s Game is a unique property with a legacy. It’s a book that’s been around for 20 years and it’s back on the New York Times best-seller list. Part of it is the fact that it is required reading in middle schools across the country.
