    Happy Birthday Hailee Steinfeld (Petra)

EnderWiggin.net wishes a very happy birthday to actress Hailee Steinfeld, who turns sixteen today! Steinfeld will play Petra Arkanian in Ender’s Game.

Ender fans just made aware of the movie’s production may be wondering why she looks so familiar. In 2011, Steinfeld was nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Actress in a Supporting Role category for her performance as young Mattie Ross in True Grit.

Steinfeld has had a packed 2012, filming not only Ender’s Game, but three other films including a new adaptation of Romeo and Juliet. All four films are due out in 2013.

  • Viola Davis: “I Did Not Read the Book”

Viola Davis: “I Did Not Read the Book”

In a recent interview with BlackFilm.com, Viola Davis talked about her most recent projects including the recently released film ‘Won’t Back Down’ and the young adult book adaptation ‘Beautiful Creatures’. She is later asked a bit about her role as Major Anderson and Davis mentions that she has not read ‘Ender’s Game’.

“I did not read the book. […] And in Ender’s Game, in the book, Major Anderson is actually a male so by the time… I just felt like this is a different character and I didn’t feel like I could learn anything from reading the book as much as I can learn something from studying the psychology of people who have come back from war and experience post-traumatic stress disorder and I felt that was much more valuable for me.”

    Watch the full video below:

What do you think about her not having read the book? Major Anderson, while a very important player in Ender’s life at the Battle School, does most of his work “behind the scenes” of the novel and so really isn’t seen by Ender very much. Still, do you think she should have read for herself the original story?

  • Kyle Clements on Filming ‘Ender’s Game’

Kyle Clements on Filming ‘Ender’s Game’

Actor Kyle Clements, who will be playing young Mazer Rackham in ‘Ender’s Game‘, recently spoke with his hometown newspaper about the work he’s done lately and he spoke a bit about his time on the set.

“Ender’s Game” was a large scale production. You could have kids flying around on high wires on one stage while Harrison Ford and Ben Kingsley were doing a scene on another stage. All the while I’m being spun around in the cockpit of a jet in another stage. It was crazy.”

Clements plays a fighter pilot in “Ender’s Game,” which was nostalgic to him. Growing up, “Top Gun” was one of his favorite movies.

“Having a role similar to that was very cool,” he said. “Two Navy pilots were even there as technical advisors.”

Working on a 30-year-old beloved sci-fi novel has its perks.

“’Ender’s Game’ has a huge fan base. When someone on the crew of ‘2 Guns’ heard I played Young Mazor Rackham in ‘Ender’s Game,’ he wanted a picture with me,” Clements said. “It’s flattering,” Clements said. “I encourage everyone to pursue their dreams, whatever they may be.”

Hopefully he’s prepared for more of those fan encounters as November 2013 edges closer, as people have been waiting for this movie for decades!

  • Nonso Anozie Talks Getting the Part of Sergeant Dap

Nonso Anozie Talks Getting the Part of Sergeant Dap

Nonso Anozie spoke recently with Ebony Magazine about his role as Sergeant Dap in Ender’s Game.

Anozie joked about how he thought the on-set location in New Orleans, Louisiana was hot, but was apparently a breeze compared to Morocco, where he is currently filming Genesis to Revelations for the History Channel (he plays Samson).

When asked about what it was like to film with Viola Davis, he revealed that he has no scenes with Davis (Major Gwen Anderson) in the movie. “But I’d come to set on my off days to watch because I enjoy all facets of movie making.” said Anozie. “We’d talk offset.”

As for Harrison Ford, the actor says he was invited to fly to Los Angeles with Ford on his private plane. “He’s really down to earth and we got to know each other quite well.” He also mentions that he and Sir Ben Kingsley have been friends from working on another movie together in the past.

As for his role as Dap and how he got the part, Anozie says it was one of the most surprising parts about the film for him, “Originally, it wasn’t written for a Black man, Sergeant Dap is a white guy in the book. But the casting staff liked me so much that I got the part.”

Ender’s Game was a great movie and I’m looking forward to the world seeing it.” We’re certainly looking forward to it as well!

Ender’s Game will be released in theaters November 1, 2013.

  • Nonso Anozie: ‘Ender’s Game’ Will Be Cutting Edge

Nonso Anozie: ‘Ender’s Game’ Will Be Cutting Edge

Nonso Anozie was in attendance this past Sunday at the London Film and Comic Con and spoke with RedCarpetNewsTV about ‘Ender’s Game’. He explains his role as drill sergeant Dap, “He’s a real hardass at first to Ender. Really bad guy, but at the end you really start to see there’s a reason why he’s been so hard on them.”

Anozie mentions that he still has to head back to the States to finish up some more work on the film, but mentions how much fun it was. “It’s going to have a lot of things that no one’s seen before. A lot of computer graphics, a lot of visual effects, kind of cutting edge. Stuff that nobody’s seen before.”

Makes the wait that much longer, doesn’t it? Only 478 days to go!

  • VIDEO: Asa Butterfield at the Young Hollywood Awards

VIDEO: Asa Butterfield at the Young Hollywood Awards

Red Carpet Tips has posted a brief video interview with Asa Butterfield at the Young Hollywood Awards and they talk to him about what he’s wearing and how he did his hair.

Now, some of you are probably wondering, Valentine, why are you wasting our time with this silliness? Just bear with me.

While some of you may find it totally irrelevant to be listening to Asa’s red carpet tips, what’s interesting about this video is that it’s a good way for us to hear the change in Asa’s voice and see the difference in his physique.

Most people trying to get to know Ender before the movie comes out inevitably end up watching Hugo, which was Asa’s last movie. The problem with that is that while the movie just came out last year, it was filmed in June 2010, which was a full two years ago and done when Asa was only 13.

Compare photos and you’ll see he looks very different.

The last time we posted video of an interview with Asa was in January when he attended the Critic’s Choice Awards. Compare that with how deep his voice is in that interview to the red carpet video above and you can definitely notice a difference. Compare the red carpet video with clips or interviews during the filming of Hugo and you’ll see a more obvious difference in pitch.

So just how does one get to know Asa Butterfield as he’ll be in Ender’s Game if he hasn’t done anything since the award-winning Hugo?

With red carpet fashion report videos, of course. Asa looks like he’d like to be anywhere else in the world than talking hair gel and clothes with the reporter, but that just makes the video that much cuter. His advice for young actors?

“Get your mum to dress you.”

  • Khy Rhambo Talks ‘First Family’ and ‘Ender’s Game’

Khy Rhambo Talks ‘First Family’ and ‘Ender’s Game’

While attending Byron Allen’s Launch Party, Khylin Rhambo (Dink Meeker) talked with JJ Snyder of the Red Carpet Report about his show ‘First Family‘ and ‘Ender’s Game‘.

In ‘First Family‘, Rhambo plays Charles, son of the President of the United States. The pilot was filmed earlier this year and he had nothing but good things to say about the experience. “All the cast, they’re awesome, so I’m pretty excited to see how it turns out.”

Talk quickly turned to ‘Ender’s Game‘ and Rhambo was very excited to have worked with the likes of Harrison Ford, Viola Davis, and Sir Ben Kingsley. “That was a really good learning experience for me as an actor. I’m really excited. That was my first movie so it was really cool that I got to experience that.”

When asked to explain about his role and the movie’s premise, Khylin was happy to give a quick rundown. “I play Dink Meeker and he’s like a boy genius and he’s close to the main character and we have this big journey of fighting these aliens. It’s a really cool story that I’m excited to be a part of. The books are amazing. I’m stoked, I can’t even believe this is happening.”

Snyder asked whether the formics were done with puppets or CGI and it’s not surprising that he said they never actually saw them, since an encounter like this never happens in the books. “But I saw the whole layout of them.” said Rhambo.
