First Look at the Battle Room Stars

Blogger Mike Pierce (from iwatchmike.com), a.k.a. mikethemovieguy on Twitter, has made it his job to hang around the Summit booth and the Ender’s Game Interactive Experience to provide us all with footage on how everything is coming together.

Watch Mike’s socialcam video below for your very first look at the battle room stars! Look how huge they are!

Mike also talks about some interesting rumors concerning “some interactive people there who are playing the characters.” We have wondered why some of the cast members were rumored to be going to Comic Con, but weren’t listed in the official autograph signing line-ups. Could this be where they’ll be hanging out?

Summit Teams Up with HGTV for Ender’s Game Home Makeover

    Enders-Game-Experience

As we’ve discovered earlier today (see photo above), Summit has teamed up with Home and Garden TV for its Ender’s Game Experience. According to several news outlets, Summit and HGTV have issued a press release concerning HGTV’s involvement in the Experience as well as the home makeover visitors can hope to win.

Inside the “Ender’s Game” activation, located outside the Hilton Gaslamp district, HGTV showcases its “Journey Begins at Home” space—an interpretation of the Wiggins home living room—among eight elaborate, specially constructed, unique rooms that represent the most iconic environments of Ender’s world, complete with original film props and set pieces used in the movie.

Visitors will be able to “enter the sweepstakes for the chance to win $10,000 courtesy of HGTV for their own “out of this world” home makeover.”

  • New Interview with Orson Scott Card

New Interview with Orson Scott Card

    CardHood

Yesterday, The Digital Universe (Brigham Young University’s online news outlet) published a new interview with Orson Scott Card. None of the things he says about the book and the movie are entirely new, but the interview may clear up a few matters that people have been confused about. Here are a some excerpts:

    About morality in Ender’s Game:

The novel doesn’t answer those questions, anyway — rather it raises them, and if anything it shows that the best you can do is muddle through, trying to do what’s right, as far as you can figure out what that is. That’s all that human beings can ever do. Even the great ones like Lincoln and Churchill are right only some of the time. Ender Wiggin, though fictional, is no better.

About his involvement in the movie:

My work as co-producer was all done in the early stages. Once Gavin Hood took over, my help was no longer required.  […] The screenplay you see on the screen was 100 percent Gavin Hood. None of my writing was used. That was the decision that Odd Lot and Summit made; it was their money at risk, and they invested in the writer they believed in. I have no complaints.

  • Ender’s Game Cast Watch #5

    Ender’s Game Cast Watch #5

This past week had half the cast in a flurry over San Diego Comic Con. It looks like almost everone is attending!

    5suraj_sdcc_201307105brandon_sdcc_20130708

According to the official Comic Con page, Suraj and Aramis as well as Jimmy Pinchak, Conor Carroll, and Cameron Gaskins are going to sign autographs on Saturday around noon (drawing of line tickets is around 9am), while the Thursday panelists (sans Harrison Ford) are scheduled to sign on Thursday morning.  Good planning, Comic Con! It’s not as if the Ender’s Game fans will be waiting in line in front of Hall H at that time!

What I find interesting is that Brandon Soo Hoo, Khylin Rhambo and Moises Arias (both unconfirmed) seem to be going to San Diego, but aren’t part of the official line-up. What’s with that? Are they just going to hang out around the premises? Or is there some secret project they are involved in? (Ender’s Game Experience, anyone?)

Hailee Steinfeld and Asa Butterfield are also preparing for the big event. But while for Hailee things are going according to plan, Asa had to endure a few setbacks (read tweets from bottom to top) before he arrived safely in LA this morning.

    5asa_LA_20130713

    5asa_LA2_20130715
According to his Twitter, he is going to meet up with his friend and Hugo co-star Cloe Moretz while he’s there.

Earlier last week, when things were still a bit less hectic, Asa enjoyed a beautiful day in Sheffield, while Aramis went for some recreational Lasertag. Be careful, Aramis, your Bean is showing!

On a personal note, I’m happy to announce that two of my favorite fandoms are finally converging on each other, as Suraj Partha has become addicted to Doctor Who! I know your pain, Suraj. Now go spread the word!

  • Hailee Steinfeld on Petra and Strong Female Roles

Hailee Steinfeld on Petra and Strong Female Roles

    Petra-Poster_cropped169

In an article on the “new wave of strong female-led sci-fi” published yesterday by the Los Angeles Times, Hailee Steinfeld speaks up about what attracted her to the role of Petra in Ender’s Game. According to the article, it wasn’t easy for her to find a challenging enough project after her highly acclaimed performance as Mattie Ross in True Grit (2010). The role of  Petra Arkanian seems to have changed that.

When ‘Ender’s Game’ came along with Petra, I found that I’m really attracted to the strong female roles. Not only do you have to look harder for those parts but you have to fight for them. But fighting for what you want is the best part of the job. It’s what I love.”

The rest of the article focuses on other strong female characters in young adult franchises such as Divergent, The Mortal Instruments, and The Hunger Games. While many fans of Card’s novel are tired of Ender’s Game constantly being compared to The Hunger Games, Hailee nevertheless has something to say about which kind of impact the Hunger Games movie had on her and the rest of the young cast during the filming of Ender’s Game:

We all sat in the theater and we were all in awe. Most of us had read the book and we were excited. It was cool to see that ensemble cast just bring it 110%. It motivated us to really come together and make a great movie.

Skyboat Media, the production company that has exclusively produced the unabridged audio versions of Orson Scott Card’s Enderverse novels and stories, has just announced that they will be producing ENDER’S GAME ALIVE, a full cast audioplay written by Orson Scott Card himself based on Ender’s Game, the novel that started it all. According to the producers,

The audioplay will be released in late October 2013, will have a cast of over 40 actors playing over 100 roles. The production will be originally scored with full sound effects. • Ender’s Game Cast Watch #4

    Ender’s Game Cast Watch #4

Another week of me stalking the Ender’s Game cast on the nets has come to a close. Let’s see what the kids have been up to.

Asa Butterfield has been all kinds of busy. Let’s start with the picture that finally made him Instagram-famous (and I wonder why):

    4asa_boat20130704

Looks like that was the last day in Greece, before he had to return to London for his Prom!

    4asa_prom_20130705

Also, in preparation of his appearance at the Ender’s Game panel on Thursday, July 18, Asa went shopping at Carnaby Street, London. Will he wow you all with his fashion sense?

    4asa_fashion

Personally, I’m slightly flashed by the pattern mix. But I’m sure that’s just me.

Speaking of Comic Con, Aramis Knight has confirmed that he will be signing autographs! He even gave a tentative date! Watch out for him on Saturday at the Summit booth! After Jimmy Pinchak, Aramis is the second non-panelist announcing that he is going to SDCC, but Khylin Rhambo, Brandon Soo Hoo, Conor Carroll and Caleb Thaggard are rumored to be there as well.  While the kids are getting excited for the big event, Harrison Ford seems to have the time and leisure for a trip to Peru.

Hailee Steinfeld has been caught up in other projects. Nevertheless she had the time to tweet about her new magazine cover as well as an interview she did about her upcoming film Romeo and Juliet. Watch it below!

    4hailee_magazine_20130704

Moises Arias has a new film … or rather, a video. He appears in his friend Willow Smith’s new music video “Summer Fling”.

Finally, Suraj Partha seems to have a little less time for fun stuff this summer, as he is studying for his SAT! I’m sure he will ace it, though, just like he just aced his AP EURO class (according to his facebook). He did, however, have the time to post a video of himself singing and playing the piano in Paris. So romantic!

Comic Con 2013 Schedule for Saturday Released

    homepageic_satprograms

Comic Con International has released the schedule for Saturday, July 20. Summit mothership Lionsgate is dominating the day with its Hall H panel discussion on The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and I, Frankenstein. But for Ender’s Game fans, the go-to panel may be  the one held at 4:30 pm in Room 24ABC, where the movie’s chief costume designer Christine Bieslin-Clark will answer questions about the costumes she designed for some of the latest blockbusters:

    Poppin’ Some Tags

Celebrity costume designers from Costume Designers Guild IATSE Local 892 dish the dirt on designing and bringing to fruition the costumes for today’s hottest blockbusters. Featured panelists are Trish Summerville (Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Gary Jones (Oz, the Great and Powerful), Christine Bieslin-Clark (TRON, Watchmen, 300), Isis Mussenden (Wolverine, Chronicles of Narnia), and Mayes Rubeo (WWZ, Avatar). Moderated by actor Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Sons of Anarchy).

In addition, Aramis Knight (Bean) and Jimmy Jax Pinchak (Peter Wiggin) have confirmed via twitter/facebook that they will be signing autographs at Comic Con, with their appearance tentatively scheduled for Saturday. Khylin Rhambo (Dink Meeker), Brandon Soo Hoo (Fly Molo), Conor Carroll (Bernard) and Caleb Thaggard (Stilson) are also rumored to be there. We’ll let you know where and when you’ll be able to meet them as soon as we get an official confirmation.

German movie distributor Constantin has launched its official Ender’s Game site. Apart from the trailer, the release date (October 24! • VIDEO: Moises Arias on Ender’s Game

VIDEO: Moises Arias on Ender’s Game

In their interview with Moises Arias at the Despicable Me 2 premiere, DesdeHollywood asked Moises about his experience filming Ender’s Game. Here is what he had to say:

Reporter: How was it to work on Ender’s Game with Harrison Ford, a movie that will catapult you into stardom in the entire world?

Moises: Ahm, I hope that people will really see the variety of roles that I’m doing, and that they’ll start to see the different kinds of acting that I can do. I liked it a lot, and Ender’s Game gave me a big opportunity – to be an antagonist. Kings of Summer is a comedy and Ender’s Game is solely drama. There is a very big chance that if people like it it will be one of the biggest things in my career.

Many thanks to Fernanda (@franiahs on Twitter) for the translation!

    Ender’s Game Cast Watch #3

I’m a bit late this week, but to be fair, there wasn’t that much to report about our young cast as far as social media announcements go – up until today, that is. Let’s have the good news first: Brandon Soo Hoo graduated High School. Congratulations, Brandon!

    brandonfacebookgrad#3

Also, Jimmy “Jax” Pinchak announced today via twitter that he will be joining castmates Asa Butterfield, Hailee Steinfeld, Abigail Breslin and Harrison Ford at Comic Con.

    jimmy#3

Meanwhile, Abigail Breslin – again breaking the record for most tweets per day –  has been alternating sleeping on the couch (due to a bugger infestation of her room, no less) and celebrating half-Christmas with glittery wintery images on Instagram, while Asa Butterfield has been relaxing with his family in beautiful, sunny Greece.

    asagreece#3

Aramis Knight, on the other hand, has made an effort to make the world a better place in this years annual “One Child At A Time Celebrity Basketball Game” on June 23. For him, and I’m sure for many of the spectators, it was a dream come true.

    aramis3#3 aramis2#3

Finally, Khylin Rhambo has announced that he is changing his name. Personally, I welcome the change, as I’m never quite sure if I’m spelling “Rhambo” correctly.
