Moises Arias Always Stayed in Character on ‘Ender’s Game’ Set

    Moises

Moises Arias, who plays Bonzo Madrid in Ender’s Game, talked with Backstage and revealed how he stayed in character all the time while doing Ender’s Game.

“I actually stayed in character the whole time I was on set. I heard the extras were scared of me. I wasn’t doing it on purpose, I was just trying to stay in the mindset. At the end they finally started talking to me and admitted to me that I had scared them.”

Fans of the book have noted the big height difference between Asa and Moises, asking why someone who is supposed to intimidate Ender is so much shorter. Moises addresses this as well.

“[W]ith ‘Ender’s Game,’ the character was described as dark-hair, light eyes, six foot tall, bigger than everyone. I’m 5’1”. I’m basically the opposite of that. But I guess it just depends on the vision of the director and how much heart you put into it.”

While I think a lot of us had assumed that his portrayal/audition had convinced director Gavin Hood about his Bonzo, it’s nice to hear it straight from him.

Last month, the comedy film Toy’s House, starring Moises Arias (Bonzo Madrid) premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and it was picked up by CBS Films soon after. Now the film has been renamed to Kings of Summer and has a release date of June 14, 2013. Here’s a synopsis of the film:

Fed up with his overbearing father’s authoritative attitude, frustrated pre-adolescent Joe Toy recruits his best friend Patrick, and handy outcast Biaggio to help him build a house deep in the woods, where they can all live together in total freedom.

Video: Who the Hell is Harrison Ford?

TMZ caught actor Moises Arias (Bonzo) in a parking lot and presumably asked him about what he thought when he found out he’d be acting in a movie with movie legend Harrison Ford and the answer they got wasn’t exactly what they expected.

    “I don’t think I knew Harrison Ford.”

It’s always possible they asked him if he knew him personally before the film, not if he knew who he was, but the video in general is rather amusing. Despite TMZ’s shock at the fact that kids today don’t know him or don’t seem to care, my guess is that’s totally okay with Harrison Ford, who reportedly despises the diehard Star Wars fans that hound him. And really, who wouldn’t?

Joe Toy, on the verge of adolescence, finds himself increasingly frustrated by his single father, Frank’s, attempts to manage his life. Declaring his freedom once and for all, he escapes to a clearing in the woods with his best friend, Patrick, and a strange kid named Biaggio and announces that they are going to build a house there—free from responsibility and parents. Once their makeshift abode is finished, the three young men find themselves masters of their own destiny, alone in the woods.

The movie, directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, premiered on January 19 and will show four more times at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. View the schedule here.

‘Ender’s Game’ Production Blog Posts Space Camp Photo

    Space Camp

The production blog for Ender’s Game, which seems to be operating on a weekly Wednesday posting, put up a new photo of the cast in a simulator while attending Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama.

“Houston, we have a problem.  We don’t know how to land the Shuttle.” Good thing it’s just a simulator safely on the ground at SPACE CAMP in Huntsville, Alabama.  Aramis, Moises, Asa & Suraj (pictured above from a monitor in the MISSION CONTROL ROOM ) and the rest of our cast agreed that to do Ender’s Game right, they had to train as though they were really headed into ZERO G.  And this wasn’t just an afternoon spent taking a vanity tour. From the Manned Maneuvering Unit (MMU), which simulates extra-vehicular shuttle missions in Earth’s orbit, to the microgravity training chair that prepared astronauts for moonwalks during the Apollo program, the week at Space Camp was genuine prep for the feeling of reality that this movie deserves. And after all, the army that trains together stays together.
